"Nothing is IMPOSSIBLE. The word itself says I'M POSSIBLE!" -Audrey Hepburn-
Hello families and welcome to Our Lady Queen of Apostles! My name is Shannon Murphy and I am the 5th Grade Teacher here at OLQA. I am a 2008 graduate of Mount St. Mary's University (located in Emmitsburg, Maryland), where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology with a Minor in Elementary Education. I then continued my academic journey and attended Dowling College where I went on to receive my Master's Degree in Elementary Education (Grades 1-6) and Special Education (Grades 1-9), in 2010.
Prior to becoming a part of the OLQA "Family of Families," I was the 7th and 8th Grade ELA Teacher for a Catholic School in Queens, New York. Having been fortunate enough to work within the Catholic School setting for what is now my seventh year, I can assure you that your children will receive a well rounded, individualized and personalized educational experience here at OLQA; one that they will be able to look back upon well into their adult years with fond memories. They will learn the importance of being held responsible as well as accountable and most certainly will feel as if their classroom is their home away from home.
My favorite subject to teach is ELA as I love to read and love the personalized conversations (as well as personalized connections), my students can make in regards to scenarios within a novel and/or the characters they are introduced to and learning about. I truly believe that Novel Study opportunities are an intricate part of the classroom dynamic and also lends itself in allowing peers to form stronger connections with not only myself as their teacher but also among one another.
Aside from being a dedicated Teacher I am also a wife and a mother. My husband and I have known each other since High School and were married in September of 2014. We have a 6yr old daughter and any free time that I have is spent with my family as I am a very family oriented person.
I am very much looking forward to meeting all of you, getting to know one another and welcome the opportunity to work with your children here at OLQA.
